2008 Cornwall Center Annual Conference

"Understanding and Addressing the Subprime Mortgage Situation in New Jersey"

Goals: To understand from a personal, community, and policy perspective the challenges and opportunities that exist surrounding what is commonly referred to as the “subprime” mortgage situation in New Jersey.  After attending this conference, it is expected that attendees will understand the following:  what is meant by subprime mortgage; the causes, effects, and current status of foreclosures in Essex County; the opportunities that exist for individual homeowners in crisis and tenants in properties facing foreclosure; what neighbors can do to support each other and their community; and what the cities of urban Essex, the County of Essex, the State of New Jersey, and the federal government are doing to address the challenges and provide assistance to individuals and communities.

·         Representatives from community-based organizations and governmental and for-profit entities that develop and/or implement programs and policies affecting homeownership.

·         Policymakers and elected and appointed officials at the local, county, and state levels.
