2008 Cornwall Center One-
Day Academic Forum:

"Critical Issues for Cities: Past, Present, and Future"

What: Cities in the United States today are experiencing rapid change that brings both challenges and opportunities for improving the lives of urban residents. Nowhere is this clearer than in New Jersey, the country's most urbanized state. In such times of change, researchers at the state's public research institutions have a special role to play by helping the public and government policy makers to better understand and respond to complex issues. This conference spotlights issue-oriented urban research by Rutgers University faculty, staff, and students, and by our colleagues at neighboring universities.

This one-day conference will allow faculty, researchers and students to describe and discuss emerging interdisciplinary urban scholarship with their peers. The conference will include both individual research presentations and panel discussions of selected urban issues. Session topics will include immigration, urban redevelopment, the foreclosure crisis, and amenities and urban design. All sessions will be moderated by Rutgers researchers. The research presented will focus on issues of special importance to northern New Jersey, although the themes are common to many urban areas.
