Where: |

123 Washington Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102 |
|
When: |
June 29, 2004, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. |
|
Why: |
In New Jersey today, many thousands of children are challenged
by societal ills such as poverty, child abuse and neglect, parental
substance abuse, domestic violence, physical and mental illness, and
incarceration. Some, but not all, of these children end up under
the custody of the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS).
Addressing the challenges these children face—both in and out of DYFS
care—is clearly a job that is too large for the state alone. At the
same time, the costs of not helping these children is immense and
affects all of us. This conference will consider ways that informed
and engaged citizens of all types can intervene to improve the
physical, social, and other conditions in which these children grow
to adulthood. |
