Notes: 
1. This spreadsheet, "Northern New Jersey Population Data by County and Municipality, 1970-2000," provides population data from the decennial U.S. censuses for 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000 for the eight counties of Northern New Jersey, each of their municipalities and the cumulative eight county region. The counties are: Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, Union, Morris, Sussex, and Warren.

2. The data are presented in Microsoft Excel format (vers. 2000) 

3. Population data (i.e. numbers of persons) are presented for each of the four decennial censuses. Number and percent change for ten, twenty and thirty year periods are also presented. 

4. Data are arrayed in the following sequence: 1. Urban counties first (Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, and Union), 2. Suburban/rural counties second (Morris, Sussex, and Warren) 

5. Data source: The source for the 1970, 1980, 1990 data was The New Jersey Municipal Data Book. Edition : 2000, published by Information Publications. The source for the 2000 data was The U. S. Census Bureau's website: http://factfinder.census.gov
