Freddie Mac stabilizes the nation's mortgage markets and expands opportunities for homeownership and affordable rental housing. The organization ensures the continuous flow of funds to mortgage lenders, and purchases mortgages from lenders and packages them into securities that can be sold to investors. This securitization process ultimately leads to providing low- to middle-income homeowners and renters with lower housing costs and better access to home financing. Freddie Mac also invests in mortgages by raising money to purchase mortgage assets through selling bonds to investors throughout the world.

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) is an independent entity within the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Ginnie Mae helps to expand affordable housing in America by providing an efficient government-guaranteed secondary market vehicle linking the capital markets with Federal housing markets. Rather than loan money for mortgages, the agency helps make mortgage-backed securities more attractive to investors thereby increasing the availability of mortgage credit. 


Federal Housing Finance Board

The Federal Housing Finance Board (FHFB) regulates the 12 Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLB) created in 1932 to improve the supply of funds to local lenders. In turn the FHLBs finance loans for home mortgages. The board also has regulatory authority and supervisory oversight responsibility for the Office of Finance. Today, the FHLBs and their 7,902 member-owners form a cooperative partnership that continues to help finance the country's urban and rural housing and community development needs. This partnership supports community-based financial institutions and facilitates their access to credit. The Finance Board ensures that the FHLBs, which are privately capitalized, government sponsored enterprises, operate in a safe and sound manner, carry out their housing and community development finance mission, and remain adequately capitalized and able to raise funds in the capital markets.

The Regional Plan Association (RPA) is one of the nation's most influential independent regional planning organizations. The Economic Development Administration (EDA) helps generate jobs, retain existing jobs, and stimulate industrial and commercial growth in economically distressed areas of the United States. The organization works in partnership with state and local governments, regional economic development districts, public and private nonprofit organizations, and Indian tribes to help distressed communities address problems associated with long-term economic distress. In addition the EDA helps communities weather sudden and severe economic dislocations. SBA is the nation's largest single financial backer of small businesses. The agency offers management and technical assistance to millions of small business owners. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) protects investors and maintains the integrity of the securities markets. The commission requires public companies to disclose financial and other information to the public to provide a common pool of knowledge for investors. Securities Investor Protection Corporation

The Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) is a component of the overall system of investor protection in the United States. The New Jersey Public Policy Research Institute, (NJPPRI) identifies, analyzes, and disseminates information critical to informed public policy development in and for the African-American community in New Jersey and the region.
