In the spring of 2018, Cornwall will launch a new series of reports summarizing the state of knowledge on hot buttons or strategic topics.  Research seldom provides a roadmap for resolving complex problems, but it can suggest directions and priorities, help us think strategically about resource allocation, and help us avoid repeating the mistakes of others. These reports will be written for a broad audience. A number of the early reports will be on educational topics, given the excitement in the city about the return of Newark schools to local control after 22 years under state receivership.

Some of the early overviews are likely to include:

  • Say Yes/ Promise scholarships
  • What happens when localities regain control of their schools?  Does it matter?
  • Elected vs. appointed school boards
  • An overview of research on opportunity youth
  • College-going culture
