June 2016, Immigration in New Jersey

Since Europeans first settled in the New Jersey area in the early 1600s, immigrants have defined the state’s population, culture, and economy. Currently, a wave of immigration brings over a million foreign-born people to the United States every year, tens of thousands of which make their home in New Jersey.[1]Over the next few weeks, our look into immigration in New Jersey will observe the overall number and proprtion of foreign-born residents, the timeframe in which they entered the United States, and the world region of their birth. We will finish with a look at the prevelence of different languages in New Jersey neighborhoods.
