Strong Healthy Communities Initiative (SHCI) South Ward Mapping

The Cornwall Center is providing assistance to SHCI in its project to document conditions of every parcel in the South Ward of Newark, NJ. This project represents an attempt to not only officially document the extent and effects of the harmful vacancy, blight, and abandonment that is only anecdotally known throughout many Newark neighborhoods, but also to document the locations and conditions of important community institutions, such as parks, doctors, grocery stores, and religious institutions. The results of the documenting of property conditions can hopefully help inform important municipal services, such as police, neighborhood services, and code enforcement. The Cornwall Center helped to compose the parcel condition survey used in the project, and provides technical assistance in administering the innovative mobile parcel survey application, created and provided by LocalData, that is being used to survey parcels.
